Church and State Redux
Before starting your paper, use the Assignment Calculator (from the University of Minnesota Libraries) for help in determining your research timeline. (Particularly useful for whirlwind summer classes!)
Look at Facts on File's "World Atlas" for a brief overview of religion in a particular country.
Try searching the Britannica Online.You may want to use the "Compare Countries" feature to look at the country you are studying compared to the US (or any other country.
Or go directly to the Britannica World Data Analyst for an overview and comparison.
Check the Gale Virtual Reference Library for entries from "Countries and Their Cultures".
Two of the these sources offer links to credible sources on the public web.
Check MCC Library's catalog for books on the country you are researching. Of particular interest is the series "Culture and Customs".
For articles on the country you are researching and religion, search Academic Search Premier, JSTOR (limit articles to 2000 on). Lexis-Nexis for both newspapers and Law Reviews (Under Legal Research).
If needed, check the following public websites for more information on the country you are researching:
Country Studies from the Library of Congress which is updated annually.To check if there are more recent developments, check the Country Profiles site.
The CIA World Factbook - the online version of the annual print reference book (website is updated every two weeks)
Remember that an "official religion" (or lack of one) does more than determine where and when people worship. It has implications for education, the legal system, foreign policy, rights of minorities and women, commerce, mass media......etc.
